MEPAU supported the 2025 Backroads Gravel cycling and running event as a Community Sponsor, helping bring this event to life in the scenic Shire of Chapman Valley.
This unique one-day event attracted more than 750 participants and over 1,000 spectators, bringing energy, excitement and economic benefits to the Mid West. With a range of events including cycling distances of 160km, 100km, 60km, 20km and 10km, along with running events such as a full marathon, 14km and 5km races, the festival catered to all levels of fitness and enthusiasm.
Backroads Gravel is a community-focused event that proudly engages local businesses, residents and community groups. MEPAU is committed to supporting regional initiatives that strengthen community connections and create opportunities for local industries and small businesses to thrive in the communities in which we operate. Events like the Backroads Gravel not only showcase the natural beauty of the Mid West but also highlight the impact of collaboration between local organisations, residents and industry.
Adding to the excitement, MEPAU team members proudly took part in the cycling events, highlighting our team’s active and enthusiastic spirit. Nathan Patterson took on the 100km course, completing it in an impressive 3 hours and 38 minutes, demonstrating both endurance and commitment. Josh Lovegrove tackled the 160km course, finishing in 5 hours and 29 minutes. Notably, this race marked the inaugural WA State Championships for gravel racing, a significant milestone in this fast growing discipline.
Joining Team MEPAU for the day in the 160km event were Rohan Van Dongen, who completed the course in 5 hours and 44 minutes, and Thomas Greene, finishing in a strong 5 hours and 21 minutes. Representing MEPAU in the 100km race was Julian Chipper, who completed the cycle in 3 hours and 38 minutes.
