Cygnus Hub (CCS development)
- 2024 Project Start Date
- Mid West, Western Australia Project Location
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is an important part of the pathway to a low-carbon energy future. It enables rapid decarbonisation and emissions reduction by utilising a combination of technologies to capture and store large volumes of carbon dioxide in order to prevent its release into the atmosphere.
CCS involves three steps: capture at source, transport of the carbon dioxide, and injection of the carbon dioxide into rock formations deep underground for safe storage.
Our aim is to assist industry reduce emissions and avoid carbon from reaching the atmosphere by providing a robust long-term storage solution. MEPAU’s strategy supports industry to implement net-zero strategies.
MEPAU is evaluating carbon capture, transport and storage in the Mid West of Western Australia with aspirations to deliver carbon storage as a service for carbon emitters in the Mid West, Kwinana (Perth) and other locations in Australia, and in the future internationally.
