Mitsui E&P Australia (MEPAU) recently attended the launch of the Northern Agricultural Catchments Council (NACC) Natural Resource Management’s (NRM) five-year conservation project in the Mid West, House and Home: Safeguarding Native Species. This project is supported by $650,000 in funding from MEPAU and Beach Energy and aims to enhance biodiversity while safeguarding native species throughout the region.
The project will focus on endangered plants, installing artificial nesting hollows, controlling pests, and engaging local communities in planting and monitoring activities. Key focus areas include Geraldton, Dongara, Port Denison, Carnamah, Coorow, and surrounding regions. Focus areas include protecting Carnaby’s Black Cockatoos, conserving threatened flora, restoring habitats, managing invasive species, and fostering collaboration with local communities and First Nations groups.
At the project launch, MEPAU and the Beach Energy representatives had the opportunity to meet the NACC NRM team and Sam from Sam’s Midwest Vermin Control, a First Nations business, who will play a pivotal role in on-ground conservation and pest management.
MEPAU supports NACC NRM and their work to protect native species through the House and Home: Safeguarding Native Species. This initiative aims to strengthen community capacity through training, employment, and environmental education, supported by the expertise of NACC NRM’s Biodiversity team.
