Mitsui E&P Australia (MEPAU) attended the Healthy Minds, Healthy Eating initiative, supported by a $4,000 Mid West Community Grant and proudly sponsored by MEPAU and Beach Energy. This initiative was led by the Western Australian Centre for Rural Health (WACRH) and celebrates the traditional foods and eating customs of the local Mid West Aboriginal community, promoting the health and wellbeing of the Geraldton Yamatji community through the richness of Yamatji culture.
As part of the initiative, Curtin University dietetic students collaborated with local community members to develop healthy recipes inspired by traditional practices. These recipes will be documented in a cookbook that will include stories and histories from the community, alongside video instructions accessible via QR codes so others can easily follow the cooking process.
The project was coordinated by Meredith Hancock, WACRH Student Coordinator and Accredited Practicing Dietitian at the Geraldton branch of the University of Western Australia. Community participants have expressed excitement about the final resource, seeing it as a valuable tool for promoting healthy eating while preserving cultural knowledge.
MEPAU supports the Healthy Minds, Healthy Eating initiative, which highlights the importance of culture, collaboration, and nutrition in promoting community wellbeing.
