Mitsui E&P Australia (MEPAU) was pleased to join Desert Blue Connect and members of the Mid West community for the Morawa International Rural Women’s Day Dinner on 15 October.
With support from a $4,000 Mid West Community Grant*, Desert Blue Connect hosted a community dinner that brought together women from across the region for an evening of connection, reflection, and celebration. The event recognised the vital role rural women play in shaping strong, sustainable communities and driving regional development.
This year’s event featured wonderful guest speakers, including Shirley Katona and Julie Firth, who shared their inspiring stories. Shirley is a long-time Morawa resident and self-made business owner who built a thriving hardware and rural supplies centre while also contributing to her community through roles like speedway racer and St John Ambulance volunteer. Julie is a pioneering sustainability advocate and founder of The Drylands Permaculture Farm in Geraldton, blending her background in electrical work, environmental consultancy, and hands-on permaculture to educate and inspire community resilience.
These inspiring rural women shared their journeys, sparking meaningful discussions and encouraging a deeper appreciation for the challenges and achievements of rural women. The evening also featured interactive activities and opportunities to build relationships across the community.
