You're reading: $150,000 for young women’s educational support programs in the Mid West

MEPAU was proud to join SHINE for the official launch of their Emerging Women program — an event that not only celebrated this important new initiative but also marked the beginning of our new partnership.

Through the partnership, SHINE will receive $150,000 over three years from MEPAU and Joint Venture Partner Beach Energy. This funding will support the delivery of SHINE’s school-based programs — Shine and Shimmer — as well as their new post-school initiative, Emerging Women.

SHINE works hand-in-hand with schools to support students at risk of disengaging from mainstream education, equipping them with life skills, vocational training, social and emotional wellbeing support to help them re-engage with learning and prepare for their futures.

The newly launched Emerging Women program will help young women transition from school to further education or employment, with a focus on mentorship, skill-building and community connection.

SHINE’s initiatives are currently active in a number of schools across the region, including Champion Bay Senior High School, Mount Magnet District High School and Wandina Primary School, with over 140 students taking part each year.

The SHINE programs have demonstrated strong results in improving attendance, academic performance and behaviour, and have supported more than 1,300 girls over the past 13 years.

MEPAU is proud to support SHINE and their initiative to work towards improving opportunities and outcomes for young women in the communities where we operate.
