Mitsui E&P Australia and joint venture partner Beach Energy are funding the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) to run a ‘Dongara Education Program’ – a hands-on musical experience that will see a trio ensemble perform and engage with students at Dongara District High School later this year.

As part of the program, Dongara DHS students were invited to attend WASO’s 2022 Regional Tour concert rehearsal in Geraldton on Friday, and Year 6 Student Matthew Gillam came back with an outstanding review:

On Thursday 4th August 2022 a group of 14 students from Dongara District High School went to Queens Park Theatre to watch the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra rehearse ahead of their Thursday night performance.

The experience was very fun since it was my first time seeing an orchestra. My mum often plays Mozart and Beethoven at home. Hearing the full orchestra playing these classical pieces live made me appreciate my mum’s taste in music. I liked Mozart the best because it was presto, poppy and vibrant.

We were greeted by Alan Tyrell and I enjoyed his story of the violinist who got arrested in Paris for simply playing his violin.

Overall it was the best music I have ever heard and made for a wonderful day out.
