The three not-for-profit organisations will receive a Mid West Community Grant to implement projects, activities and initiatives that will enhance and promote community wellbeing within the Mid West.
Desert Blue Connect
Desert Blue Connect will host a North Midlands Community Wellbeing Project in the Shire of Morawa, which will include two community sessions, Working with Warriors and Check Me Out.
The ‘Working with Warriors’ session will engage with men about their physical, mental and social wellbeing. In doing so, it will equip community members with knowledge to better understand some of the logic that underpins masculine behaviour, especially regarding how men approach their health and wellbeing. The two-hour session will be delivered by the Regional Men’s Health Initiative.
‘Check Me Out’ will be a two-hour session held for women, providing information about the important health checks women need and offering community education on topics such as pelvic health, mental wellbeing and health checks for women.
Foodbank of Western Australia
Foodbank WA will be delivering a ‘Learn. Cook. Share.’ nutrition program in Geraldton for vulnerable members of the Mid-West and Gascoyne region with their grant funds.
Foodbank WA;s qualified dietician in Geraldton will deliver a four-week program out of their specialised Community Kitchen at the Foodbank Geraldton branch, providing a hands-on experience to increase cooking skills and confidence in cooking budget-friendly, nutritious meals.
Foodbank WA is WA’s largest food relief organisation providing over 7.8 million meals a year to West Australian families, and they also have a team of leading nutritionists and dietitians delivering specialised nutrition and cooking programs across the state to promote healthy eating and cooking ability in a fun and social environment, often for the most vulnerable in our community.
Morawa Golf & Bowling Club
The Morawa Golf & Bowling Club will use its $4,000 grant funds to help replace the function room chairs at the Club to enable the venue to continue to provide a quality facility for its multiple community users. The Club will be fundraising the remaining $4,500 to replace all 100 chairs.
The Club building offers a space for community members to come together and to host events, such as workshops, meetings, family celebrations, Business After Hours events, fundraisers and community fitness classes.
Mid West Community Grant Program
The Mid West Community Grant Program was developed by Mitsui E&P Australia and joint venture partner Beach Energy to support not-for-profit community groups, clubs and organisations to implement projects, activities and projects that enhance and promote community wellbeing within the Mid West.
These grants are available up to two times per year for funding requests of up to $4,000.
